The Unpaid Tab mission in Borderlands
4 (BL4) might seem straightforward at first, but it throws you a serious
curveball at the end: the fate of Quent. After facing off against the Ripper
Queen’s enforcer, Driller Hole, you’ll be forced into a high-pressure puzzle
that determines whether Quent lives or dies.
Many players wonder: Should you save Quent in Borderlands 4? And if so, how do you save him in BL4’s Unpaid Tab mission? Let’s break it all down.

Where
the Mission Fits in Borderlands 4
Unpaid Tab comes right after the Siege and Destroy mission. If you rush straight into it without paying attention, you might miss the chance to rescue Quent. Staying focused is key here—because once the timer starts, you only have one minute to act.

How to Save Quent in BL4’s Unpaid Tab Mission
After defeating Driller Hole, the
Ripper Queen’s machine activates and begins the process of “Ripperfying” Quent.
You’ll have just 60 seconds to disable it. Here’s exactly what to do:
- Shoot the glowing red pipes in the ceiling – There are three of them, clearly marked by red glow
and bursts of flame. Destroy them quickly with your strongest weapon.
- Flip the six switches on the machine – These are located on top of the central device. Run
around and pull each one as fast as you can.
Pro Tip: Start by blasting
the closest pipe, then quickly circle the machine to hit the switches, and
finish off the last two pipes. Time management is everything.
When I did this, I managed to save Quent with only 6 seconds left on the timer. To maximize your chances, equip a weapon that deals heavy burst damage. I had the most success using Moxxi’s Cold Shoulder shotgun from the Tip Jar quest.
Should
You Save Quent in Borderlands 4?
Here’s the catch: saving Quent in
BL4 doesn’t give you any material rewards.
- No bonus XP.
- No rare loot.
- No achievement.
What you do get is the satisfaction
of doing the right thing. Quent is portrayed as a clumsy but well-meaning ally
in a chaotic, ruthless universe. Letting him die at the hands of the Ripper
Queen feels cruel, even if the game doesn’t punish you for it.
So, while it’s optional, saving Quent is the moral choice—and one that shapes how you experience the story.
The Borderlands 4 save Quent
moment in Unpaid Tab is one of the more memorable moral decisions in the
game. Even though you don’t gain loot or achievements, it highlights BL4’s
ability to mix chaos with emotional stakes.
Whether you choose to let Quent live or die, just make sure you’re ready for the time-sensitive puzzle when it hits.
