After two explosive seasons, Solo Leveling
has cemented itself as one of the most exciting anime adaptations in recent
years. Season 2 delivered jaw-dropping animation, intense battles, and raised
the bar for quality even higher than the first season. Naturally, fans are now
turning their attention to Solo Leveling
Season 3.
Unfortunately, news about the third season has been scarce, leaving the community anxious. Even though Aniplex hosted a big event recently, no official confirmation was made about a continuation. So, why is there a delay, and when could Season 3 realistically release? Let’s break it down.
Why Solo Leveling Season 3 Is Facing Delays
1. Limited Popularity in Japan
While Solo
Leveling is a global hit, its reception in Japan has been more lukewarm.
The anime didn’t flop, but it never reached the hype levels of mainstream
titles like Dragon Ball, Naruto, or One Piece. Since the Japanese market remains the primary
driver for most anime productions, this lack of domestic hype plays a role in
the cautious approach to renewing the series.
Atsushi Kaneko, one of the directors, even
stated:
“As a Japanese person living in Japan, the
anime is not at the level of Dragon Ball
or Naruto. But if Season 3 happens,
that’s when I want to truly break that boundary.”
2. Maintaining High Production Quality
Another major factor is production time. Solo Leveling is known for its exceptional
animation, which doesn’t come easy. Kaneko revealed that Seasons 1 and 2
combined had around 220,000 frames of
animation—a massive workload for any studio.
Trying to replicate or even surpass that level
of quality in under a year would be unrealistic. Rushing could result in a
disappointing season, so A-1 Pictures may prefer a longer schedule to maintain
the anime’s reputation.
Kaneko himself joked:
“If it were up to me, I’d say let’s wait until the next Olympics (2028) to see what’s going to happen with a Season 3.”
When Could Solo Leveling Season 3 Release?
·
2026 Seems
Unlikely: While many fans hoped for a 2026 premiere, the odds are
slim. Pushing for an earlier date could compromise quality.
·
2027–2028
Is More Realistic: Based on the production demands and director
commentary, a release closer to 2027 or 2028 seems far more likely.
Until then, fans can revisit the 25 episodes currently available across two seasons, streaming on Crunchyroll. And for those who don’t want to wait, the Solo Leveling manhwa offers the complete story with additional details not covered in the anime.
The hype for Solo Leveling Season 3 is real, but patience will be key.
With its mixed popularity in Japan and the enormous effort required to maintain
world-class animation, it’s understandable why the production is taking time.
Whether the wait lasts until 2027 or 2028, fans can be assured that A-1
Pictures will aim to deliver a season worthy of Sung Jin-Woo’s epic journey.
In the meantime, catch up on Seasons 1 and 2, or dive into the manhwa to experience the story in its full glory.
