Dying Light: The Beast expands on Kyle Crane’s combat abilities by
introducing his new infection-based powers. But longtime fans of the series
will be happy to know that his classic tricks from the first game are still
here—dropkicks, brutal melee attacks, and yes, even weapon throwing.
The only problem? The game doesn’t really explain how weapon throwing works, leaving many players scratching their heads. If you’ve ever tossed your axe or machete by accident and wondered how you did it, this guide breaks down the exact controls and explains how to use throwable gadgets effectively.

How to Throw Weapons in Dying Light: The
Beast
Unlike the first game, throwing melee weapons
in The Beast requires a specific button
combo tied to your heavy attack. Here’s how to do it depending on your input
device:
·
PC (Mouse
& Keyboard): Hold Left Mouse
Button (LMB), then press F
·
Controllers
(PS/Xbox): Hold R2/RT,
then click the Right Thumbstick
Executing this combo will make Kyle hurl his
currently equipped melee weapon toward your target. Keep in mind:
·
Guns cannot be thrown.
·
You can
throw heavy two-handed weapons like axes or sledgehammers.
This makes weapon throwing a great way to finish off enemies at range, especially if you’re running low on ammo or stamina.

How to Use Throwable Items
If you want to use items designed to be thrown
(like grenades, molotovs, or throwing knives), you’ll need to equip them
properly.
Equipping Throwables
·
On PC,
press 1 to cycle between
equipped gadgets.
·
On Controllers,
press Left on the D-Pad.
Once your chosen gadget is selected:
·
PC:
Press Middle Mouse Button (MMB)
·
Controllers:
Press L1 (PS) / LB (Xbox)
Things to Remember
·
Most throwables cannot be retrieved once used.
·
Decoys can draw zombies away in dangerous
situations.
· Molotov cocktails are highly effective but require Rags + Alcohol, which you’ll often also need for healing items.
Best Tips for Weapon & Throwable Use
1.
Save throwables
for tough encounters – Molotovs and grenades are great for large
groups or mini-bosses.
2.
Use Decoys to
reposition – Perfect for stealth or when you’re overwhelmed.
3. Don’t waste heavy weapons – Thrown axes and sledgehammers can deal massive damage, but remember you’ll need to recover them afterward.
Throwing weapons in Dying Light: The Beast may seem confusing at first, but once you master the button combo, it becomes a powerful addition to your combat arsenal. Whether you’re hurling a sledgehammer into a merc’s chest or lobbing a molotov into a zombie horde, mastering throws can make all the difference in surviving Harran’s deadliest challenges.
