Walkthrough – Step by Step
1. Return to Defiant Calder & Meet Amara
The quest begins by speaking to Defiant Calder at Belton’s Bore. Amara will then ask you to meet her in a hidden location.
Pro tip: Use fast travel to the Nightcap Safehouse (far right of the map) for the quickest route. Look for grappling points along the way until you hear Amara speaking with her pet – that means you’re close.
2. Find Lilith & Defeat Creeps
After meeting Amara, she’ll lead you toward the facility’s backyard. Here, your first major task is to clear out waves of Creeps. Keep in mind that the “Find Lilith” objective runs throughout the mission while other goals change.
3. Kill Tim (Mini-Boss)
Once the Creeps are down, a Creep boss named Tim spawns, accompanied by more adds. Defeat him and his backup to progress.
4. Break Into the Black Site
After the boss fight, look for a vent near Tim’s spawn point. Use your grapple to break it open, then drop inside.
Inside, you’ll encounter a red room with vending machines and a locked elevator door. Pull the switch to continue.
Bug note: If the switch won’t activate, reload your game session – it usually fixes the issue.
5. Defeat Escaped Experiments & Open Door
Next, you’ll face several Creeps and stronger Badass enemies inside experiment chambers. Survive the waves until prompted to open a door using a nearby console. Dialogue between Amara and Vile Lictor will play during this stage.
6. Enter the Quarantined Lab & Activate the Holo-Table
Head deeper into the lab and interact with the circular holo-table console. This triggers a conversation and spawns a new boss fight with a unique mechanic.
7. Boss Fight – Kill Test Subject (Viled Prototype)
The Viled Prototype appears in an invulnerable state with glowing crystals attached to its body. To defeat it:
- Step 1: Destroy the crystals with a Shotgun or Sniper Rifle for maximum efficiency.
- Step 2: Once detached, crystals float in the air. Shoot them again before they reattach.
- Step 3: When all crystals are destroyed, the boss becomes vulnerable – finish it off.
8. Clear Final Creeps & Follow Amara
After the boss is down, clear one last wave of Creeps in the final room. Activate the console to trigger a cutscene, then follow Amara outside. A surge of Eridium will erupt, confirming the end of the Dark Subject quest.
