Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: The Simurian King Explained – Sukuna-Level Threat Revealed

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: The Simurian King Explained – Sukuna-Level Threat Revealed

This article contains spoilers for both Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

Ever since Jujutsu Kaisen concluded in 2024, fans have eagerly awaited what Gege Akutami would deliver next. Now, the sequel manga, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, is here—and it hasn’t taken long to reveal its new villain: the Simurian King.

This mysterious figure already carries terrifying weight, as Chapter 2 confirmed he is a Sukuna-level threat. For longtime fans, that statement alone sets expectations sky-high, as Sukuna was not only the most dangerous antagonist in JJK but also one of the most iconic villains in all of shonen manga.

The Simurian King – JJK Modulo’s Main Villain

So far, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has only released three chapters, but Gege Akutami has already introduced the central antagonist: the unnamed King of the Simurians, an alien race invading Earth.

Key details revealed so far:

  • He is on the same threat level as Ryomen Sukuna.
  • He commands an army of 50,000 aliens.
  • Unlike Sukuna, his power is innate to his alien species, who are naturally blessed with Cursed Energy.

This combination makes him an unprecedented threat for the new generation of Jujutsu sorcerers, who currently lack the strength and mentorship to face him.

Can the Simurian King Surpass Sukuna?

Popularity

It’s unlikely any JJK villain will ever surpass Sukuna in terms of popularity. Sukuna’s role in the Shinjuku Showdown arc, especially his fight against Gojo, cemented him as one of shonen’s most iconic antagonists. Fans will always view Sukuna as the benchmark of evil within the series.

Power

In terms of raw ability, however, the Simurian King could very well surpass him. JJK villains usually escalate in strength, and the fact that an alien king with innate cursed energy has been introduced suggests that the bar has been raised beyond Sukuna. If Gege wants to usher in a new era for Jujutsu Kaisen, the world needs a villain who is even more terrifying than Sukuna.

Why the Simurian King Matters to JJK Modulo

Gege Akutami has confirmed that Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo will be a short-term serialization lasting about half a year, collected into roughly three volumes. That means every chapter matters, and the Simurian King is set up as the ultimate threat who will define the sequel’s impact.

If executed well, he could cement JJK Modulo as more than just a sequel—he could create a foundation for future spin-offs or continuations, much like Sukuna’s influence carried through the original series.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Release Schedule

  • Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo is serialized weekly in Weekly Shonen Jump.
  • JJK Modulo Chapter 3 released on September 21, 2025.
