Yes, Ghost of Yotei is
considered a spiritual sequel to Ghost of
Tsushima, but it does not directly continue Jin Sakai’s story.
Instead, it introduces a new protagonist,
setting, and narrative, making it a standalone experience that both
newcomers and longtime fans can enjoy.
Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, the game will be released exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025.
Ghost of Yotei: Story and Setting
Unlike Ghost of Tsushima, which was set in
1274 during the Mongol invasion of Japan, Ghost of Yotei takes place in 1603 — nearly 300 years later.
Players step into the role of Atsu, a lone mercenary whose family was
murdered by a brutal group known as the Yōtei
Six. Sixteen years after the tragedy, Atsu embarks on a path of
revenge across northern Japan, battling enemies with a mix of sword combat, stealth, and tactical survival.
While Ghost of Yotei doesn’t tie into Jin Sakai’s storyline, it carries forward the core identity of the franchise — breathtaking landscapes, cinematic duels, and intense stealth encounters.
