Borderlands 4 Easter Eggs & Secrets
1. Old HUD Throwback
During Arjay’s rescue from Timekeeper’s captivity, the screen briefly flashes the original Borderlands HUD. Health and skill bars appear for a split second when ECHO scans you, serving as a subtle nod to the series’ roots.

2. The Quad-A Experience
When Ubisoft claimed they were making a “Quad-A game,” the internet never forgot. Borderlands 4 pokes fun at this when Claptrap offers “hot dogs” that turn out to be batteries. Their description? “The True AAAA Experience.” Classic Gearbox humor.
3. Tannis on a Fish
The legendary meme makes a comeback! After getting your hoverbike, head to The Howl Region via Coastal Bonescape. Near a Dead Bolt collectible, shoot the barrels in the order Corrosive → Cold → Fire → Electric → Radiation to reveal Tannis on a Fish, earning you an achievement.
4. Marcus Bobbleheads
Hidden throughout Kairos, you’ll find glowing Marcus Bobbleheads. Each one grants 100 XP when collected, and there are dozens scattered across the regions. They’re not marked, so keep your eyes peeled.
5. Shrek’s Brother “Wreck”
In a tongue-in-cheek reference, a radioactive mini-boss resembling Shrek (and his pet that looks suspiciously like Donkey) appears near Wyclef’s Reprieve Safehouse.
6. NOT Pokémon
In the Wayward Gun side quest, you’re tasked with capturing creatures using a “catch-tainer.” Soon after, you’ll battle a duo resembling Team Rocket — except they’re called the Bomb Squad. Borderlands humor strikes again.
7. Fake Code Terminals
Look closely at the glowing green terminals scattered across the game and you’ll notice the “code” is nothing but walls of random text — a jab at fake tech jargon.
8. Embracer’s Bluff
In Carcadia Burn, there’s a location literally called Embracer’s Bluff, situated over a garbage dump. A clear jab at the real-world former Gearbox parent company, Embracer Group, which sold the studio to Take-Two.
9. Moxxi’s Reward Returns
Moxxi’s Tip Jar tradition lives on. Tip generously and you’ll unlock new Legendary weapons exclusive to Borderlands 4. Just like old times, but with shinier loot.
10. VR-ON1CA
During the No Place Like Home quest, Claptrap mentions his female counterpart VR-ON1CA while helping you retrieve a speech processor and Moxxi’s painting.
11. Claptrap as Batman
During the Potty Mouth side quest, you can summon Claptrap by lighting the Clap Signal, a parody of the Bat-Signal. He’ll swoop in to help you unclog toilets. Yes, really.
12. Master Chief Reference
One of the Legendary shotguns, Lead Balloon, has a description quoting Halo 2’s Johnson: “For a brick, he flew pretty good.” A direct nod to Master Chief’s bomb-drop scene.
From subtle callbacks to industry jabs, the Easter Eggs in Borderlands 4 showcase Gearbox’s love of humor and pop culture. Whether you’re exploring Kairos, battling mini-bosses, or just shooting at random barrels, you never know when you’ll stumble on another secret.
Keep an eye out — this is just the beginning, and more Borderlands 4 secrets are bound to be discovered as players dive deeper.
