Fatima Sana Shaikh Makes Her Web Series Debut in Nyaya: “OTT Gives Freedom to Create Honestly”

After her impactful performance in Sam Bahadur (2023), Bollywood actor Fatima Sana Shaikh is ready to take on a new challenge — her web series debut in the upcoming social drama Nyaya. Known for her versatile roles in films like Dangal, Ludo, and Thar, Fatima’s leap into the OTT space marks an exciting shift in her career.

Talking about what drew her to the series, Fatima says she was immediately pulled in by the show's powerful narrative.

“I really liked the story. My character is layered, and I’m playing a cop for the first time, which makes it all the more thrilling,” she shares. “What really clicked with me was the intent behind the show. It’s not just entertainment — it has a voice, a cause. It speaks about something important.”

Her role in Nyaya is part of a busy slate for Fatima in 2025, which also includes films like Aap Jaisa Koi, Gustaakh Ishq, and Metro... In Dino.

OTT vs Theatres: Fatima on the Freedom of Digital Platforms

As more A-list actors venture into streaming, Fatima sees the shift as natural.

“The line between films and OTT has blurred,” she explains. “At the end of the day, people want to tell good stories — whether it’s for the big screen or your phone screen.”

She admits that while theatrical releases have their magic, OTT offers unmatched creative freedom.

“There’s no box office pressure online. That means creators can be more honest with their work. You make what you believe in, without worrying about opening weekend numbers.”

Fatima also appreciates the stress-free aspect of OTT:

“Your work is out there, and whether people choose to watch it or not is up to them. That’s liberating for an artist. You’re not chasing validation, just doing your best.”

“I Didn’t Miss the Screen — I Was Busy Creating”

With a gap of nearly two years between releases, fans may have wondered where Fatima disappeared. But according to her, she never took a break.

“I was working non-stop. I shot for four projects last year. I get so consumed by work that I don’t even realize how much time has passed.”

For Fatima, it's clear — screen or no screen, as long as she’s acting and creating, she’s in her element.

What to Expect from Nyaya

While detailed plot points remain under wraps, Nyaya is expected to blend crime, drama, and social commentary. With Fatima in a bold new avatar, and a topic that resonates, the series promises to be both impactful and engaging.
